Paving in Gothenburg – driveways, terraces and paths

Well-executed paving lasts for decades – but only if the groundwork is done right. We lay concrete pavers, natural stone and slabs on driveways, terraces, entrances and paths, with a free-draining sub-base that prevents settlement and unevenness.

Paving in Gothenburg

Paving that lasts – thanks to what you don't see

Most of the work in paving lies beneath the surface. A poorly compacted base, the wrong sub-base or inadequate drainage are the most common reasons paving settles, develops dips and floods. In the Gothenburg region, with its heavy rainfall and frost heave, the foundation is especially important.

We excavate, build up a free-draining sub-base of the right thickness, compact carefully, lay the bedding layer and then the stone with the correct fall away from the house. We then joint and compact the surface. You get a result that looks good from day one and stays level for many years.

We help you choose stone, pattern and edge restraint based on use and budget. You receive a written fixed price after the inspection, and the labour cost is normally eligible for the ROT deduction.

Common projects

What do you want to pave?

We carry out paving for most surfaces around the house and property:

  • Driveway and garage approach that withstands cars and heavy vehicles
  • Terrace or patio with flat, even and comfortable surfaces
  • Entrance, steps and paths to the house
  • Relaying of sunken, uneven or poorly drained paving
  • Courtyards and parking areas at housing cooperatives and properties
  • Retaining wall and kerbstones, garden paths and planting areas

If excavation and drainage are needed first, we can take care of the whole chain – see groundwork.

Why M2 Bygg Team

Paving with the right foundation from the start

The right sub-base and compaction

We build up the sub-base to the right thickness and compact layer by layer, so that the paving does not settle or develop dips.

Drainage and the right fall

Surfaces are laid with a fall away from the house so that water is led off. This protects both the stone and the foundation of the house.

Help choosing stone and pattern

Concrete pavers, natural stone or slabs – we show alternatives and help you choose based on use, appearance and budget.

Careful laying work

Even joints, neat cuts, straight lines and the right junction against house, steps and manholes.

Fixed price and ROT deduction

You receive a written fixed price including groundwork. We deduct the ROT deduction directly on the invoice.

The whole project in one hand

From excavation and drainage to laying and finishing – one point of contact and one schedule.

How it works

How paving works

  1. 1

    Inspection and planning

We look at the area, ground conditions, levels and drainage, discuss use, choice of stone and pattern, and take measurements.

  2. 2

    Fixed-price quote

Within 24 hours you receive a written fixed price including groundwork, materials and laying.

  3. 3

    Excavation and sub-grade

The ground is excavated to the right level, spoil is removed if needed and a geotextile layer is laid where required.

  4. 4

    Sub-base and compaction

A free-draining sub-base is built up and compacted layer by layer with a plate compactor, with the right fall for drainage.

  5. 5

    Bedding layer and laying

The bedding layer of crushed aggregate is levelled and the stone is laid in the chosen pattern with even joints and correct cuts.

  6. 6

    Edge restraint, jointing and compaction

Edge restraint is set, jointing sand is brushed in and the surface is compacted. We clean up and leave the plot tidy.

Materials

Stone and slabs – how to choose

All materials have their strengths. We help you choose according to use and budget:

Concrete pavers

The most common choice for driveways and paths: affordable, hard-wearing and available in many colours, shapes and sizes.

1,500–4,300 kr/m²

Natural stone

Granite, slate and limestone give character and a very long service life. Every stone is unique, but the material is more expensive.

2,200–5,000 kr/m²

Patio slabs

Large formats give a modern, clean surface for patios and terraces. Works well together with the right sub-base.

1,500–2,500 kr/m²

Setts / cobblestones

Classic and robust, suits older houses and courtyards. Very durable and easy to repair.

  • Size and shape of the area and the number of details such as steps, edges and radii
  • Ground conditions – need for excavation, removal and drainage
  • Pattern and cutting work, and choice of edge restraint
  • Access for machinery and delivery of materials

Questions about paving

As a guide, 1,500–4,300 kr per m² for concrete pavers, 1,500–2,500 kr for terrace slabs and 2,200–5,000 kr for natural stone. Materials, kerbstones, drainage and other items are included only to the extent stated in the quote. You receive a written fixed price after inspection.
It depends on use and ground conditions. A driveway for cars normally needs a thicker sub-base than a footpath. We size the foundation according to load and frost conditions.
Small areas take a few days, larger driveways and courtyards one to two weeks. The time required depends on area, groundwork and weather. The schedule is in the quote.
Yes. We lift the stone, fix the sub-base and drainage, relay or replace the stone and re-joint. Often the existing stone can be reused.
Normally not, but in some areas a ground permit may be required, for example for major changes to ground levels. Check with the municipality or ask us – we will help you assess.
The labour cost for paving connected to the home is normally eligible for the ROT deduction and gives a 30 % tax reduction (max. 50,000 kr per person per year). We assess what applies in the quote.
