The sheet-metal details determine how long the house lasts

A roof is only as watertight as its weakest detail. Gutters, downpipes, bargeboards, apron flashings, chimney flashing and junction flashings do the invisible work of leading away rain and meltwater. When they rust, warp or come loose, the water runs where it should not – and the costs of a moisture-damaged facade, rotten eaves and a damaged foundation are considerably higher than for new sheet-metal work.

We fabricate and install sheet-metal details in steel, zinc, aluminium and copper. Because we can cut the sheet metal to measure on site, the fit is exact, even on older houses with crooked or unusual corners. We help you choose a material and colour that match both the house and your budget.

You receive a written fixed price after the inspection, and the labour cost is normally eligible for the ROT deduction.

When should the sheet metal be replaced?

Signs that gutters and sheet-metal details need attention

Sheet-metal details are often visible from a distance when something is wrong. Look out for:

  • Rust, holes or leaking joints in gutters and downpipes
  • Gutters that hang crooked, have come loose from their brackets or collect water
  • Water streaks, damp patches or algae growth on the facade below the eaves
  • Rotten or discoloured eaves, bargeboard or cladding next to the sheet metal
  • Ice and snow problems at the eaves in winter – often a sign of poor drainage
  • Loose or warped flashings around the chimney, roof windows and dormers

We check the sheet-metal details in connection with every roof renovation and roof replacement.

Why M2 Bygg Team

Sheet-metal work that withstands West Swedish weather

Made-to-measure sheet metal

We can fabricate flashings and details on site to exact measurements – a perfect fit even on older houses with unusual angles.

The right material for your house

Steel is affordable, zinc and aluminium are light and corrosion-resistant, copper is premium. We help you choose according to house and budget.

The whole drainage system

We look at the whole picture – gutters, downpipes, connection to storm drains and fall – so that the water really is led away from the house.

Correct installation and fixing

Correct fall, the right number of gutter brackets and sealed joints make the difference between a gutter that lasts for decades and one that leaks within a year.

Fixed price and ROT deduction

You receive a written fixed price including materials and installation, and we deduct the ROT deduction directly on the invoice.

A neat and tidy result

Clean cuts, matching colours and scrap removed – the sheet-metal work should look as good as it works.

How it works

How the sheet-metal work proceeds

  1. 1

    Inspection and measuring

We look at the existing gutters, downpipes and flashings, measure lengths and fall, and assess the substrate and fixings.

  2. 2

    Choice of material and quote

You choose material and colour together with us and receive a written fixed price including installation within 24 hours.

  3. 3

    Removal of old sheet metal

Existing gutters and flashings are taken down, and the eaves and fixings beneath are checked and repaired where needed.

  4. 4

    Fabrication and installation

New sheet metal is fabricated or ordered, installed with the correct fall and fixing, and joints are sealed.

  5. 5

    Connection to drains

Downpipes are connected to the storm drain or a spout so that water is led away from the foundation.

  6. 6

    Final check

We water-test where needed, check that everything is secure and clean up after ourselves.

Materials

Sheet-metal materials – how they differ

All sheet-metal materials work – but they differ in price, service life and appearance.

Steel sheet (coated)

The most common choice: affordable and strong, with a colour-coated finish in many shades. Damage to the coating must be repaired to avoid rust.

25–40 years · Affordable

Zinc sheet

A naturally corrosion-protected metal that develops a grey patina over time. A very long service life and a classic look on older houses.

60–80 years · Maintenance-free

Aluminium

Light, rustproof and easy to work. Works well where weight matters and in coastal environments with salty air.

30–50 years · Light

Copper

A premium material with a unique character – it turns green with the years. Used on churches, older houses and architect-designed buildings.

Very long · Premium

Price & ROT deduction

How much does sheet-metal work cost?

The price depends on the material, the length and how complicated the house is to access. As a guide, gutters cost 800–3,000 kr per linear metre and a downpipe for a normal house height costs 3,500–6,000 kr, depending on material, dimensions and height. We always give a fixed price after inspection.

What affects the price

  • Material chosen – steel, zinc, aluminium or copper
  • Total length of gutter and number of downpipes
  • Height of the house and the need for scaffolding or a boom lift
  • Whether the existing system is to be removed or supplemented
  • Complex details: corners, chimney, dormers and junctions
